Portfolio & Store Video Waterfalls/Nature My Waterfall Finds Meteors Storm Chasing Live Tracker About Me Home

This is the home page of Arkansas Storm Chaser Brian Emfinger.

I have been interested in extreme weather and storm chasing for as long as I can remember. From tornadoes and severe storms to snow and flooding, my interests include any form of severe or unusual weather. I have been a TV photographer in Little Rock, Arkansas at KATV Channel 7 for 3 years now.

Although I can recall driving my bike into afternoon thunderstorms as early as 1994 (when I was just 13 years old), it wasnt until 1999 that I began serious storm chasing. Along with storm chasing I love trying to photograph lightning and can hardly pass up even the slightest chance to try and capture a nice lightning strike. I am also interested in Astronomy and am nearly as obsessed with photographing meteors as I am photographing lightning.

Since moving to Arkansas from Mississippi with my family in 1989, I can't imagine living anywhere other than in the mountains of Northwest Arkansas -- even though it's not the greatest area for storm chasing! I especially love the varied weather that the mountainous areas experience. The mountains of Arkansas also have some of the best scenary in Arkansas including some incredible waterfalls. After seeing many of the best waterfalls out of Tim Ernsts Arkansas Waterfalls Guidebook i started to search out new and unknown waterfalls. I pretty quickly found many new great waterfalls and I reached out to Tim Ernst to inform him of my waterfall finds. Now, many of my best waterfall finds are in his second edition Arkansas Waterfalls Guidebook. He even named one group of waterfalls after me - Brians Polyfoss Area.

Besides storm chasing, lightning & meteor photography, and waterfall hunting... the other thing people seem to associate with me is flying drones. I was one of the first people in the country to use drones (or UAS) for newsgathering. I used it primarily in weather related news events like flooding and storm damage. In April 2014 I flew my UAS over the damage in Mayflower moments after the tornado struck there. I let KATV use the video that night and I uploaded it to youtube. By the next morning I had been contacted by every major news company in the country and many others outside the country. My video was featured on the front page of Youtube and racked up over 2 million views.

I have been married since 2003 and my wife Jennifer will occasionally come with me on storm chases. Jennifer is a elementary counselor in Little Rock. My wife and I intercepted Hurricane Katrina at Slidell, LA and I rank that event high on my list of the most extreme weather we've witnessed.

I made this website so anyone can see the pictures and video that I occasionally catch, and to have quick links to weather information. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or would like to use any of my pictures/video - feel free to contact me at
